James Bovinette

Associate Professor of Music

James Bovinette Dr. Bovinette is the director of the Jazz Ensemble Program and Professor of Trumpet at Iowa State University. Professor Bovinette holds the Bachelor and Master degree in music from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois. As a symphony musician, jazz artist, and recitalist, he has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, performing everything from Bach to Bop. As a solo artist he has performed works for trumpet and orchestra with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, Illinois Contemporary Chamber Music Ensemble, the Festival Orchestra of St. Louis, the St. Louis Bach Society, and the Classical Music Festival Orchestra in Eisenstadt and Vienna, Austria. He has recorded under the Sonari record label, is an active trumpet and jazz clinician, adjudicator and guest artist, and can be heard performing regularly with Des Moines Symphony, the Cedar Rapids Symphony, the Des Moines Civic Center Show Orchestra, and his own jazz quartet, "The Jazz Quartet of Ames".
